Softboiled Eggies

Softboiled Eggies

Softboiled Eggies began in 2006 as the private song-writing project of Janet Kim. Janet Kim is a songwriter, gallerist, and music instructor from Los Angeles, California. She holds a BFA in composition and piano performance from Northwestern University, where she studied under label-mate Michael Pisaro. She is founder of the music label, gallery and performance space, Tiny Creatures, which she continues to operate with event promoter Benjamin White. She has helped to operate and manage Human Ear Music in 2008. She now holds young-adult courses in piano, guitar and 20th century music theory at the Tiny Creatures space in Echo Park.

Shortly after the founding of Tiny Creatures, the Softboiled Eggies project evolved from a hushed bedroom recording to a modern pop style, absorbing elements of 60’s bubble-gum, mod and post-punk genres. Softboiled Eggies has performed and toured throughout the US, and their music has been released by labels in the US and England.

After Bubonic Plague, Softboiled Eggies was the second Human Ear Music associated project to use a live band, and the first to solely involve traditional live performances. The music is true to modernist pop’s thematic instability, lacing imaginary and emotionally extreme mise en scene with sweet repetition and jangly timbres.
